All people often face troubles in their lives. It might be because of their job or because of toxic people such as friends, boyfriends/girlfriends, husbands/wives or even family members.
However, we cannot always blame others. Sometimes the toxic person in our lives is neither our boss nor our partner. Sometimes the toxic person in our lives is ourself.
It’s ok for it to happen. Still, you have to realize that the problem is you. The sooner the better! There are many reasons for that to happen. It’s like losing yourself.
The following characteristics will help you recognize the symptoms of a problematic personality; gradually, you’ll be able to improve yourself.
You often become hateful.
We all get angry sometimes, but if you find yourself hating everyone in your life and constantly blaming others for your problems, then you should consider that something might be completely wrong. You have to realize that you can’t always blame others. You have to take responsibility for your actions. Even if others don’t always behave the way you want them to, you have to understand that that’s their prerogative. I’m not telling you that you should always blame yourself instead. You just have to find the right balance.
You’re a drama queen.
Are you one of those people who are constantly complaining that they had the WORST day ever, that they are always facing problems in their relationship and that everyone treats them badly? If so, please stop it. It’s bad for you and it’s also annoying for the people around you. Noone wants a friend who complains about everything. And hey, your life cannot be that bad! We all have things we don’t like in our lives. I understand that some things cannot be changed. But if, for example, your problem is your relationship, this is something changeable, you know! There is no use in playing the victim. Think more positive!
You are too competitive.
Competition is not bad at all. It helps us become better and better. However, you shouldn’t be competitive about everything. It shows that you’re actually jealous of other people and you feel like you should ALWAYS be the best. It’s ok to lose. It’s ok to fall some times in your life. Just remember to get up again. That has nothing to do with others, so stop comparing yourself to them. You have to depend on yourself.
You are often mean towards others.
Saying mean things to people, even if you do it “as a joke”, secretly means that you feel bad about yourself. If you find yourself constantly trying to humiliate others, especially if they’re your friends, you should start thinking that there is something inside you that really hurts. Find what it is and try to change it.
You are controlling.
A sizable indicator that someone is a toxic person is if they are overly controlling. Though many of us have controlling tendencies, there’s a difference between someone who likes things tidy and someone who tries to manipulate the people close to them. If you belong in the second category, I think you should try to respect other people’s space and choices as well as you want them to respect yours.
You lie a lot.
It’s not a surprise that toxic people tend to lie frequently. Some tell little lies, while some others lie about their whole life. The fact is that people who lie a lot, are usually afraid of something. But why are you afraid of the truth? There’s no reason to lie at all. People who truly love you, will still love you for who you really are. You don’t have to live in a fairytale to be happy.
Another hallmark of toxic persons is a zest for gossip that’s a little too strong. We all like to gossip once in a while, but there are people who are constantly talking behind other people’s back. “Get a life” might sound like a cruel advice, but its message is powerful; if you start loving yourself and the life you’re living, you’ll understand that there’s no reason to comment everything that has to do with other people’s lives.
