Believe it or not, when a narcissist says “I love you” it takes on a completely different meaning. These words coming from someone who can never truly love another person holds different significations.
When a narcissist says that they love you, it means they absolutely adore how you want to believe that they love you dearly. They love the fact that they can exploit your kindness and make you dance to their tunes. They take pleasure from your sadness and misery, they feel powerful by making you feel insignificant.
They love that your life revolves around them, that you shower them with love and attention despite not getting anything in return. They know that you won’t leave them for some odd reason and so they take joy from the realization that no matter what you’ll always be around. They will have you around just to make themselves look good. They will relieve all their stress and anger on you, assuming you are there to pick up the pieces.
They know that you don’t have high expectations from them but their demands from you keep rising, and you keep working harder to fulfill them. They adore the look of sadness and dissatisfaction on your face.
When they say, ” I love you”, they love themselves vicariously through the love you have for them. They love to hate you. They hate having to depend on you for their happiness but as long as you’re suffering they’re okay.
They are fully aware of the toxic nature of the relationship and know that you still won’t leave them. Their happiness is your responsibility and whenever you try to point out their mistakes they make you feel horrible in return. They are experts at playing the victim, to make you feel guilty when it’s not even your fault.
They will never support you but demand your constant support and presence. They use love as a key to manipulate you into doing things for them. You might feel you’re with the right person and have accepted the emotional torture as normal, but when they say they love you, they mean they appreciate that you act according to their rules.
They will never treat you with respect, love, and kindness. They will always make you feel worthless no matter how much you do for them. They will continue to hurt you like you mean nothing to them. They will never change.
This kind of relationship isn’t real, isn’t worth your sanity.
