Shocking tales of pedophilia have been too frequent in recent times and it is disheartening to know that this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Every time something like this comes up, there is ostracization and banishment of the guilty and the best case scenario is to serve justice with speed. But is that really enough?
Can we as a society ever do something to make the trauma of the victims and their family go away completely?
In another disturbing revelation, an extensive network of pedophiles was active on the darknet since 2016. This group comprises of more than 90000 members spread across Germany and Austria.
If you don’t know about it, the darknet is part of the internet people mostly use for illegal trades and communications. It doesn’t function in a typical manner and almost all file sharing is on a peer-to-peer basis. It was here that a file-sharing platform by the name of Elysium was being used to exchange media files of child abuse.
The law enforcement arrested the man who founded the site, a 39-year-old German citizen. Sadly this is not the first, or even the last such case to have come to attention.
Before this, a similar ring was busted in Norway which was said to have more than 70,000 active members. Many of such busts have also uncovered many famous faces, including some religious personalities involved in participating in, recording and distributing physical and sexual assault of children, as small as toddlers too.
The things done to these poor kids are monstrous, to say the least. Just to think that some people get off with such a hideous atrocity is terrifying enough. But the number of cases doesn’t seem to be going down at all. It seems that it isn’t enough that whatever sick sense of power these people derive from abusing little children.
They record it and spread it, which some believe is an act of trying to gain power. And sadly the more technologically advanced these people get, the more widespread this abomination would be.
