This is the touching story of a young boy and his father. He used to hate his father because he feels his father work too hard but achieve so little to take care of the family. Despite his father’s poor state, he managed to send him to school and give him pocket money , however , the father made sure that the boy always pay his taxes – this is a little portion of his pocket money , while his father also pays taxes from what he earns from his daily odd jobs.
One day , the boy asked his father “Why are we so poor”, his father made him realize that being rich is not about how much you have but how much you give. One day the boy got a scholarship to study in the college, his father was happy for him and game him some money, asking him to call whenever he is in need of money. The boy instead returned the money to his father, having realized that his father may not be able to take care of himself.
The boy eventually became successful and also became so busy with work that he missed family reunions and other traditional activities that unite the family. He was checking through his mails one day and saw several letters written and sent to him from unknown people.
He decided to find out why he had received so much mails from unknown people and that was when he discovered that all the taxes his father collected from his pocket money were given to the needy in the society, and that was when he realized his father’s saying, He became so happy and more fulfilled to see many people benefitting from his hard work and that was when he realized what his father said “how much you give determines how rich you are and not how much you have”.
