A judge in Georgia made an 8 minute long speech to an audience of troubled teens. She wanted to help them get out of the destiny they believed for themselves, one of petty crime, and a life in and out of jail.
The program Consider the Consequences has been designed to help young teens with a history of discipline problems or small crimes, to avoid continuing in the same route. The female judge didnt know she was being filmed at that point, so her speech came right from the heart.
You are special, you are uniquely made, and nobody else can do what you’re supposed to do in this world. And if you don’t do it, we won’t have it,” judge Colvin said to the group of teens, heating up with emotion. “I continue to believe that one reason our society is so messed up is because some people who were born to do certain things just dropped the ball. For every person who didn’t do what they needed to do … we’re missing something as a society.”
During her speech, law officers could be seen passing tissues around the teens who listened with their breath caught. Hopefully, the judge’s effort and true emotions hit home.
